Opening hours, admission and address

Address
Piazza San Pietro
Opening hours
  • Mon–Sun07:00–20:00
Admission
Entry to the basilica is free and needs no booking; the cost is the security line, which crosses the square from the right-hand colonnade and is shortest at opening and in the last two hours. The church opens 07:00 to 20:00 daily, with last entry at 19:15. The dome climb is a separate ticket: €22 with the lift, €17 by the stairs, both including basilica entry and a digital audio guide, and you are asked to enter the basilica ninety minutes before your dome slot. It is 551 steps from the ground, or 320 after the lift. The dome opens 07:00 to 18:00 in summer and 07:30 to 17:00 in winter. Shoulders and knees covered, enforced at the barrier, and expect Wednesday mornings to be the busiest of the week.
