Piazza del Campidoglio

Admission
The piazza, Michelangelo's Cordonata ramp and the terrace behind the Palazzo Senatorio looking over the Roman Forum are free and never close, and that terrace at dusk is why most people climb. The hours and the ticket belong to the Capitoline Museums in the palaces either side. They open daily 09:30 to 19:30, with last admission an hour before, and close on 1 May and 25 December; on 24 and 31 December they shut at 14:00. The base non-resident ticket is €15, reduced €9.50, but a temporary exhibition pushes the price up, so budget for more than the base rate at most times of year. Residents of Rome go free. Booking is not required for individuals.
