- Free, a public street with no gate and no closing time. There is nothing to pay and nothing to book. The walk from Placa de Catalunya down to the Columbus column takes about twenty minutes at a stroll. Be clear about what the street is now: it is heavily touristed, and the pavement cafes on it charge two or three times what the same coffee costs a block away, so if you want to sit down, turn off into the Gothic Quarter or the Raval. Pickpocketing is a genuine and constant problem here, worst around the Liceu metro entrance and in the crowd that gathers at the street performers. Keep bags closed and in front of you, and treat anyone who stops you to show you something as a distraction.
