Shakespeare and Company

The English-language bookshop where some 30,000 writers have slept among the shelves.

  • Free to enter

Opening hours, admission and address

Address
37 Rue de la Bûcherie
Opening hours
  • Mon–Wed10:00–20:00
  • Sun12:00–19:00
  • Thu–Sat10:00–21:00
Admission
A shop, not a monument: free to browse, no ticket. The building is tiny and numbers inside are capped, so a pavement queue forms on summer afternoons — it generally moves quickly. Photography and filming are not allowed inside, nothing with a side longer than 40 cm comes in with you, and the shop sometimes closes early for its evening author events.
